The number in the list should not matter. It is stored based on device identifier name.

Check the value of "AudioRendererType" in Registry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MPC-HC\MPC-HC\Settings

One workaround is to set the desired device as the default in Windows sound settings.

I don't have debug symbols for MPC-HC 1.8.4, but maybe clsid can take a peek at it. I stashed the dump file at https://drive.google.com/file/d/11OB...ew?usp=sharing
Edit: I think I found the problem. Exception when trying to remove shader cache.

Um, I think that's just the main thread's loop, waiting for messages, and there aren't any since the process is stuck on an exception popup. I had to resort to creating a dump via task manager, since it wouldn't make one otherwise. Since the exception was caught by code that's displaying the popup, it needs to be focused on manually.

If your editor supports it, try giving it symbols from the microsoft symbol server, so that that [External code] expands into something useful. You want to look for the thread that's invoking RaiseException() or similar. Probably thread 10488 which is doing MessageBox().

To fix some playback issues in VP9 video, you may take over LAV Filters 0.74.1.

Thank you for the response. Inspired by your workaround suggestion, I disabled my Dell display from Win10 Manage sound devices menu, since the display does not support audio anyway. And with this change, the MPC-HC's Audio Rendered list stays the same even when I change the video output from display to projector with Windows button + P key combo. After this change, I have not been able to reproduce the issue I reported yesterday.

Out of curiosity I did compare the registry's value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MPC-HC\MPC-HC\Settings\AudioRendererType before and after disabling the Dell display from Win10 sound devices, and as you wrote, the value remains the same even if the MPC-HC's Audio Rendered list changes. So guess the issue I experienced yesterday makes little sense , but I am glad it got sorted out one way or another, so I do not need to keep changing the Audio Renderer setting back and forth manually each time I use MPC-HC.

Thank you clsid for another update. It's greatly appreciated.

@sam0t, one of the known issues of the latest "stable" Windows 10 update may be exactly what you are experiencing. See: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...date-kb4489899

Lastly, I'm leaving here the SHA-256 hashes for security:

    MPC-HC.1.8.5.x64.exe: 0BEDF3FBB5F8F128AFBB69A2BE6C7732C8CA85FECED6DE8366D3AA044B39EDAB

Was not aware of this known issue with KB4489899 update, and it surely seem to fit with the problems I was having the other day. Well at least MS acknowledges the issue and is working on fixing it.

Thanks for the heads up on this Klementh.

Maybe even just a "re-release" of 1.8.5? Until that, just copy from the ZIP of LAV Filters into MPC-HC\LAVFilters[64] to update manually.

TBH as much as I want it to happen, I doubt it will because the exact same situation occurred with MPC-HC v1.8.3 and LAVFilters 0.73/0.73.1 whereby MPC-HC v1.8.3 released with LAVFilters 0.73 (not 0.73.1) and then it wasn't until LAVFilters 0.74 released that MPC-HC got updated at all.

I can't help but think that it'd be better for one to at least maybe wait a week after a new version of LAVFilters releases before also releasing a new version of MPC-HC so that any such 0.x.1 bugfix versions of LAVFilters can be used instead.

I mean, what's the point in releasing new versions of MPC-HC the same day as new versions of LAVFilters if you're not going to keep up with LAVFilters' 0.x.1 bugfix updates as well? Heck up until recently the first post even mentioned that this "unofficial" build of MPC-HC was primarily meant to just be for bugfixes.

Speaking of bugfixes, I never got a clear answer when I inquired about something, I dunno, maybe a year ago? I had asked if MPC-HC ignoring replay gain tags is a bug, or MPC-HC simply doesn't support replay gain tags at all.

...but I suppose there's also the possibility that it's simply disabled by default and I just don't know how to enable it, in which case I'd greatly appreciate some insight on how to do so.

Thats what I do before I upgrade the integrated versions for other things. Better wait a bit and see if some unknown bugs shake out that were not noticed in nightlies, once many more people run that version.

First it takes too long, then you say I should wait a week. It is never good, always someone who complains. I just release when I am in the mood for it. You can also just wait before updating. One of the two fixed VP9 bugs has been present in LAV nightlies for over 6 weeks now, and nobody reported it. Nobody has bothered to report an issue with 1.8.5 either.

    Replaygain is not supported.

@clsid, Thanks for another update, and I'm sorry this thread is landing some palatine fillers. I hope this doesn't hinder your motivation towards keeping the project alive.
